UPS Battery Replacement Services

Professional UPS battery replacement for commercial and critical-power systems throughout the UK.

UPS Battery Replacement Services

Introduction

NSSE offers complete UPS battery replacement services for single systems and multi-UPS estates, including battery supply, on-site installation, testing and the safe removal and disposal of exhausted batteries.

The batteries within your UPS are critical to its ability to support the load during a mains power failure. Regardless of how frequently the UPS is called into action, its batteries have a finite working life and will eventually require replacement.

UPS systems typically use VRLA or lithium battery technologies with varying design lives. Actual service life will depend on operating conditions, usage and maintenance.

Proactive UPS battery replacement helps reduce the risk of unexpected battery failure and ensures your UPS remains capable of supporting your critical equipment when it is needed most.

Commercial UPS Battery Replacement

We provide planned UPS battery replacement for commercial, industrial and critical-power applications throughout the UK.

Whether you have a single UPS protecting a server room or multiple systems supporting a larger critical estate, we can provide a complete replacement programme tailored to the equipment, load and operational requirements of your site.

Our services include:

  • Supply of replacement UPS batteries from leading manufacturers including Yuasa, Fiamm, CSB, Exide, Varta, Trojan and EnerSys
  • Delivery and on-site installation by experienced UPS engineers
  • Pre- and post-installation UPS checks
  • Battery testing and commissioning
  • Safe removal and disposal of exhausted batteries in accordance with current legislation
  • Replacement works during normal working hours or out of hours where operational continuity requires it
  • Load bank and battery impedance testing where appropriate

What Affects The Battery's Life?

While UPS battery manufacturers state a specific design life for their products, a number of factors can affect and impact upon this.

Ambient temperature
UPS batteries perform best within their recommended operating temperature range, typically around 20–25°C for VRLA batteries. Sustained higher temperatures can significantly shorten their working life.

Preventative maintenance
Regular UPS maintenance allows battery condition to be visually inspected and tested, helping identify deterioration or individual weak batteries before they result in a system failure.

Battery cycling
During a mains failure the UPS draws energy from its batteries and recharges them when the mains supply returns. Repeated discharge and recharge cycles gradually reduce battery capacity and contribute to ageing.

Storage
Replacement batteries should not be stored for unnecessarily long periods before installation. Extended storage without appropriate charging can reduce available capacity and shorten their eventual service life.

Our UPS Battery Services

UPS Battery Replacement
For larger UPS systems, NSSE provides a comprehensive battery replacement service covering supply, installation, testing and disposal. Where shutdowns or disruption need to be minimised, works can be planned around your operational requirements and carried out outside normal working hours where required.

Replacement Batteries for Smaller UPS Systems
We can also supply replacement battery kits for selected smaller UPS systems where on-site engineering support is not required.

Load Bank Testing
Load bank testing verifies UPS performance and available battery autonomy by operating the system under controlled load conditions using specialist test equipment. Testing can be undertaken as part of planned preventative maintenance or as a dedicated exercise where greater assurance of UPS and battery performance is required.

Battery Impedance Testing
Battery impedance testing measures the internal resistance of individual batteries without interrupting normal UPS operation.
Regular impedance testing can help identify deteriorating or anomalous batteries before they develop into a more significant problem.

Need Your UPS Batteries Replaced?

If your UPS batteries are approaching the end of their expected service life, have failed a maintenance inspection or you are unsure of their present condition, speak to NSSE. We can assess the existing installation and recommend the appropriate replacement and testing programme for your site.
