Emergency UPS Maintenance

Introduction

If your UPS fails, it can be a stressful experience, especially if there is no emergency maintenance contract in place or if your maintenance company has let you down.

At NSSE, we understand the potential consequences of a UPS failure and have over 30 years of experience in the industry to get you up and running again as soon as possible.

The Emergency Process

Step 1.

Note the make and model (and serial number if possible) of the failed UPS along with a description of the fault.

Step 2.

Call our team on 0333 222 4000 (option 1), or email us at sales@nsse.co.uk, providing all of the relevant information.

Step 3.

Following your call or contact, we will dispatch an engineer as soon as possible to evaluate the problem and provide a report on the required remedial repairs.

Emergency Response Pricing

If you already have a UPS maintenance contract with us, it may include emergency cover labour costs. Any required parts or consumables not included in the agreement will be advised and quoted separately. Any identified repairs or remedial works (replacement batteries, fans, etc) will be quoted for all non-contracted UPS systems.

Field Service Reports

Following inspection and diagnosis, our engineer will produce a detailed report highlighting the area(s) that may require attention. These might be recommendations to replace failed parts, batteries, or other consumables (if at fault or at the end of their design life) or to advise upon ways to improve the UPS performance generally (should load improved balancing be required or where the UPS environment’s ambient temperature is on the high side).

Emergency UPS Maintenance FAQs

Yes, we are able to offer our emergency repair service nationwide.

An alerting UPS may mean any number of possible faults and a repair or remedial works may be required. The latter may be a straight forward remedy such as replacing the UPS batteries, capacitors or fans (all consumable items) if they have reached the end of their design life. This is a common fault reported by many end users.

If the UPS is in fault due to failed components, our engineer will identify the issue and we'll assess the commercial costs to repair. In the event of these costs vs the costs to replace the UPS being comparable, (or it not being commercially feasible to repair), we will also offer a quotation to replace the UPS having taken into consideration your exacting requirements.

VRLA (Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid) UPS batteries have either a 3-5 year or 7-10 year design life. Lithium-ion UPS batteries have an 8-10 year design life.

Actual battery life is subject to a number of factors - ambient temperature, the quality of the input power, and the UPS's application to name a few.

To get the best from your batteries and UPS operation, we recommend the UPS be located in a well-ventilated, air-cooled environment with an ambient temperature of between 20-23° Celsius.

Thermal scanning is one of the most commonly used options for reviewing battery health in UPS systems. Conducting a thermal scan during an inspection of the overall Uninterruptible Power Supply system can help locate any hotspots or overheating in the equipment.

Battery impedance testing measures the internal resistance of a battery and evaluates its internal health. This analysis will detect issues such as corrosion, sulfation and other influences that may negatively affect the battery's lifespan and efficiency.

Both of these services are available as an ad hoc operation if you wish to test the efficiency of your UPS system.

Costs for all repairs / remedial works and pro-active battery testing are available following an engineer's inspection of your UPS system.

We will make every effort to despatch an engineer as soon as humanly possible. Prior to this, we will attempt to trouble-shoot the problem over the telephone (or by email if you prefer) in an attempt to identify the issue quickly for you.
